Get strong and condition your body
Strength training by a running-specific S&C coach
Strength Training Benefits
Strength and conditioning (S&C) is the thing that most runners know they need to do but often struggle to find the time (and let’s be honest, motivation) to do it. S&C not only corrects weaknesses in your body which helps to protect against injury, it also improves your efficiency, ultimately making you faster.
Knowing where to start, what exercises will be the most beneficial, and having access to weights without incurring expensive gym fees can all feel like barriers.
Come train with me, a UKSCA accredited S&C Trainer through classes or 1:1s, and see how you can build strength the right way, without wasting time (or energy).
- Corrects weaknesses

Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions about S&C?
Runners need weight to build strength which will power their running, but that doesn’t suit everyone – particularly newer runners or those looking to build confidence.
If you’ve previously been to the gym, but are looking for runner-specific exercises then a class at the Pod would suit you.
If you’re looking to overcome a particular issue, such as addressing an injury niggle, then a programme designed for you through 1:1 at the Pod would suit you.
If you’re looking to start some S&C and want to gain confidence in moving your body, then a class at the Hub would suit you.
If you have any doubts, just drop me a message and I’ll happily help!
A S&C trainer is more orientated towards sporting performance, while a personal trainer (PT) address more holistic goals, such as weight loss.
Both will offer support in building strength, but if improvement in your sport of choice is your aim, then a S&C trainer provides a more specialised service.
Short answer – yes!
While the sessions are designed towards building strength in the muscles that runners most rely on, the same muscles are used in our daily life, meaning S&C builds functional fitness too.
Many runners also undertake other sports, which I adapt their programme to support too, such as netball, cricket and football, meaning that sports can complement – not compete against – each other.
It sure can be, particularly when you’re on your own and you’re not quite sure how to maximise your limited time. This is where I come in! I programme different exercises to keep things fresh, while still building towards the overall strength objectives. Having someone with you to not only give you the confidence you’re doing it right, but cheer you on for one more rep helps make the session fly by. Plus with my hilarious jokes, you’ll leave with a smile. Or a grimace.
